Terry Funk, a WWE legend whose career spanned from 1965 to 2017, has died at the age of 79, according to the organization.

Funk was a Wrestling Hall of Fame inductee and was considered one of the greatest pro wrestlers in history.

"Terry Funk is gone. I just talked to Terry’s daughter, Brandee, who gave me the awful news. He was my mentor, my idol, one of the closest friends. He was the greatest wrestler I ever saw," Mick Foley, who was at different times Funk's partner and rival, wrote on X.

Fellow legendary wrestler Ric Flair also posted about Funk's passing, saying, "In My Entire Life, I’ve Never Met A Guy Who Worked Harder. Terry Funk Was A Great Wrestler, Entertainer, Unbelievably Fearless, And A Great Friend! Rest In Peace My Friend Terry Funk Knowing That No One Will Ever Replace You In The World Of Professional Wrestling!"

Funk worked in the All Japan Pro Wrestling league, WWE (then-WWF), WCW, and ECW.

He also had parts in several movies, including Over the Top and Road House.
