North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (R) is reportedly under serious consideration as former President Donald Trump's running mate after rising through the ranks of contenders in recent weeks.

Burgum and his wife Kathryn spent Easter with Trump and wife Melania at Mar-A-Lago, and he has mentioned Burgum as a possible VP pick often to his advisers since then.

Sources told Axios Trump sees Burgum as low-drama and reliable, and thinks he could help him with undecided voters.

Burgum is not from a swing state and doesn't fit a particular category that could be helpful with some voters, like being female or a person of color.

Burgum is a conservative and also acceptable to establishment Republicans, which is a plus.

He brings to mind Mike Pence, Trump's former VP, who was also a conservative red state governor well-liked by the establishment.
