Nebraska volleyball star Harper Murray arrested on DUI, fake ID charges

 April 8, 2024

A college volleyball star on the road to professional success put her life and career on the line in a dangerously stupid mistake, and now she's paying the price.

According to the Daily Mail, Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball star Harper Murray, recently selected for the All Big Ten First Team, was caught drinking and driving, and transporting a minor with a fake ID, among other charges.

The outlet noted:

But according to reports, Murray has now been cited and released for first offense DUI, careless driving, minor in possession, possession of a fake ID and obstructing a peace officer.

The incident that led to her arrest happened last Friday morning after local law enforcement officers spotted the driver of an Audi SUV driving carelessly and flouting traffic laws.

Officers said the driver of the vehicle was Murray. She was asked to take a breathalyzer as part of the DUI stop and reportedly blew just over twice the legal limit.

Murray's future in volleyball is uncertain as a result of her carelessness. She's a massive star on the collegiate volleyball scene and has already racked up quite the impressive resume.

The Mail noted:

The 19-year-old has won a host of honors since joining the Cornhuskers. She was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week three times in the 2023 season before being named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.

Murray was also selected for the All Big Ten First Team and she recently made the 2024 US Women's U21 National Team roster.

The University of Nebraska issued a short statement in the wake of Murray's DUI arrest.

"The Nebraska Athletic Department is aware of the incident. We are awaiting more information and will have no additional comment at this time," the statement read.

Social media users offered mixed reactions to the news of her arrest. Some believe she ruined her future prospects, while others said it will likely blow over.

"Def NOT condoning what she did but she does get a phone call & that was to someone who posted her bond. Aggravated DUI means loss of license for year, prob lose some NIL contracts too. Remember Lauren Cook fiasco? She didn’t miss a beat as far as playing time," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Shame on Nebraska. Shame on CoachCook.Embarrassing. Underage and WAY above legal limit. See Howard Moore story. Watch the video. Life changed forever by drunk driver in AA. Lost wife and daughter. This is not minor. Should be immediately suspended and go from there."

It's unclear how the charges might affect her upcoming position on the U.S. Women's U21 National Team.
