Malaysian beauty queen stripped of title after video goes viral

 April 11, 2024

"Everyone makes mistakes," a Malaysian beauty queen was quoted as saying as she surrendered her title after a video of her dancing while on vacation went viral on social media.

Viru Nikah Terinsip, age 24, returned her title after she was seen "dancing suggestively with scantily-clad male dancers."

Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan was the one who made the decision to strip Viru Nikah Terinsip of her crown.

Kitingan admitted that regular people engage in this type of activity all of the time, and that "this would not be an issue if she was just an ordinary person."

"There were a lot of mixed reactions, some saw the humour in her video, some sympathised, others were unhappy and complained. We [KDCA] do not want to be the target and attract unnecessary attention," Kitingan continued. "We hope that she will accept this decision well. Let this serve as a warning to all Unduk Ngadaus to not repeat the mistake."
