Marjorie Tayor Greene says Speaker Mike Johnson's 'days are numbered'

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said Sunday on X that House Speaker Mike Johnson's "days are numbered" because of his support for a funding bill for aid to Ukraine without first passing legislation to secure the U.S. border.

Taylor Greene filed a motion to vacate Johnson's leadership last month, and two other Republicans have backed it. If no Democrats vote with Johnson, it would be enough detractors to remove him as speaker, given that Republicans only have a one-vote majority at the current time.

Prior to the Ukraine vote, some Democrats had said they would support Johnson continuing as Speaker if he allowed a Ukraine aid bill to come to a vote, but no formal deal was ever struck (that the public knows about).

Taylor Greene could force a vote on her motion to vacate by marking it privileged, but she has not done so.

Instead, she makes empty threats like the following:

Johnson will do whatever Biden/Schumer want in order to keep the Speaker’s gavel in his hand, but he has completely sold out the Republican voters who gave us the majority. His days as Speaker are numbered.

It makes one wonder whether she just likes seeing her name in the papers. There would be no benefit to Republicans to dump the House Speaker with a one-vote majority and an election coming up in a few short months.
