Biden insiders aren't worried about Joe Manchin's possible presidential run: Report

 November 26, 2023

Insiders close to President Joe Biden don't seem to have any concerns about Senator Joe Manchin's (D-WV) potential presidential run.

Manchin is touring the United States as part of an effort to build a "movement to mobilize the middle and bring Americans together."

This effort is seen by both Democrats and Republicans as a way for Manchin to gauge the support that exists for a moderate Democrat like himself running for president.

The Washington Examiner spoke with a half-dozen senior Democratic officials and campaign insiders, and while they all gave different reasons, it seems that the consensus opinion is that Manchin is not a threat to Biden's plans in 2024.

One unnamed insider explained, "Joe Manchin just isn't simply where the base of the Democratic Party is today. His commitments to fossil fuels and opposition to abortion access put him much more in line with extreme MAGA Republicans than national Democrats, and voters know this."

Manchin likely isn't a threat to replace Biden, but he still could steal moderate Democrats away from the president's re-election bid, which should be a big concern for Democrats in what will be a tight battle next year.
