Man dies after crashing into White House security fence

A man died after crashing his vehicle into a White House exterior barrier on Saturday night, according to a statement from the Secret Service.

The driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when he collided with the eastern side of the White House exterior barrier at about 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, and his identity and age have not been released to the public.

Metropolitan police said there was no threat to the White House or to the White House complex.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police explained that " at this time, the incident is being investigated only as a traffic crash by MPD’s Major Crash Investigations Unit."

At this point, it appears that the accident was simply an unfortunate incident likely caused by inebriation. But more details have yet to be released, and in today's political climate, anything is possible.
