J.R. Majewski announces he will bow out of GOP primary for Ohio congressional seat

 March 4, 2024

Republican J.R. Majewski announced that he will be dropping out of the race for Ohio’s 9th Congressional District with the March 19 primary just two weeks away.

His decision to drop out of the race came about because of his many controversies, including allegations that he lied about serving in combat in Afghanistan.

He also has been under fire for calling Special Olympics athletes “retarded," on a podcast.

His exit from the race leaves former state Representative Craig Riedel and state Representative Derek Merrin to battle it out over the primary.

The winner will go on to face Democrat Representative Marcy Kaptur, who Republicans are hoping to unseat as the 9th District was carried by Trump in 2020.

Republicans have a great opportunity to flip the seat and build on their House majority, and having Majewski and his baggage out of the way goes a long way towards helping flip the 9th District.
