Bragg's top Trump prosecutor once worked for Biden's Justice Department

Many, including former President Donald Trump himself, have strongly suggested that the cases he faces are part of a grand collusion scheme with the Biden administration to hamstring his 2024 presidential campaign.

According to the New York Post, some of those who suspect something shady is going on include House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), who recently became interested in one of DA Alvin Bragg's top prosecutors.

Jordan's interest in Matthew Colangelo, a lead prosecutor in Bragg's "hush money" case against Trump which is currently playing out at trial, stems from the fact that Colangelo used to work as a DOJ official in the Biden administration.

The Republican chairman, in a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, demanded to know more about the prosecutor's work with Biden's DOJ.

The NY Post noted:

Colangelo, who served as acting and later principal deputy associate attorney general during the first two years of the Biden administration, joined Bragg’s team for the Trump “hush money” case in December 2022.

Jordan's letter to AG Garland, obtained by the outlet, held nothing back in his concerns regarding Colangelo's past employment and convenient link to the Biden administration.

"Since last year, popularly elected prosecutors — who campaigned for office on the promise of prosecuting President Trump — engaged in an unprecedented abuse of prosecutorial authority: the indictment of a former President of the United States and current leading candidate for that office," Jordan wrote.

He added, "New York County District Attorney (DANY) Alvin Bragg is engaged in one such politicized prosecution, which is being led in part by Matthew B. Colangelo."

Colangelo was reportedly tapped by Bragg in 2022 to "jump start" the case against Trump.

Jordan doubled down in his letter, pointing out the elephant in the room.

"As the Committee has previously explained, Bragg’s politicized prosecution of President Trump has serious consequences for federal interests," he said.

He continued, "That a former senior Biden Justice Department official is now leading the prosecution of President Biden’s chief political rival only adds to the perception that the Biden Justice Department is politicized and weaponized."

Only time will tell if AG Garland complies with Jordan's request, but it's probably doubtful he will.
