House Republicans push to rename Dulles International Airport after Donald Trump

Washington D.C. Democrats are undoubtedly triggered after House Republicans make a push to honor former President Donald Trump.

According to Axios, a group of House Republicans that includes a member of the GOP's House leadership want to rename Washington Dulles International Airport after former President Trump.

The Republican bill would rename the popular and busy airport "Donald J. Trump International Airport," and force all government documents to refer to it as such.

Axios noted:

The airport is currently named for John Foster Dulles, a former secretary of state under President Dwight Eisenhower who fought against communism during the early stages of the Cold War.

Breitbart added additional history of the current name:

John Foster Dulles was a significant figure in the early Cold War era, opposing communism. He was also reportedly involved in the 1953 Iranian coup d’état and the overthrow of the Guatemalan government. His younger brother, Allan Welsh Dulles, was the CIA Director from 1953 through 1961.

The bill to rename the airport after Trump was introduced this week by Republican Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (PA), and it was referred to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure on Friday.

"As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity, and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil," he said, adding that the United States "has never been greater than under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump."

It was noted that given the razor-thin majority Republicans currently hold in the House that the bill would probably not pass at the current time. That could change if Republicans bolster their majority and win the presidency -- and hopefully the Senate -- in November.

The bill garnered several co-sponsors, including "GOP Reps. Mike Waltz (Fla.), Andy Ogles (Tenn.), Chuck Fleischmann (Tenn.), Paul Gosar (Ariz.), Troy Nehls (Texas) and Barry Moore (Ala.)."

Unsurprisingly, the idea of renaming the airport after the former president triggered a number of responses from triggered Democrats, including from Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA).

"Donald Trump is facing 91 felony charges," Connolly said, according to The Hill. "If Republicans want to name something after him, I’d suggest they find a federal prison."

Some social media users were all for the potential name change.
