Gunman shoots, wounds four shoppers in Ohio Walmart

Patrons at an Ohio Walmart went through a horrifying experience this week after a gunman walked in and randomly opened fire.

According to the Associated Press, the lone gunman managed to shoot and wound four shoppers at the Beavercreek, Ohio Walmart on Monday night.

The attack at the Walmart in Beavercreek, a suburb of Dayton, just days before Thanksgiving injured four shoppers: three women and a man. Police said three were in stable condition and one of the women in critical but stable condition on Tuesday afternoon at area hospitals.

Beavercreek Mayor Bob Stone, at a press conference, announced the tragic shooting and expressed his sorrow.

"Tragedy struck our beloved community Monday evening, and, in the face of adversity, the strength of our community shines through," the mayor said.

The Beavercreek Police Department issued a statement with limited details.

"A male walked into the Walmart in Beavercreek around 8:35 p.m. Monday and began firing a gun, injuring four people. The victims were transported to area hospitals and their conditions are unknown at this time. A fifth person, the shooter, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. No shots were fired by any responding police officers," the department wrote.

The department added, "Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation; FBI; as well as other local agencies are on scene assisting with the investigation. Again, there is no active threat."

The tragedy drew the attention of Ohio Rep. Mike Turner, who released a statement on social media regarding the horrific shooting.
