Billionaire oil heiress Ivy Getty files for divorce from Tobias Engle after 3 years

 April 17, 2024

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) officiated the wedding of an oil fortune heiress in 2021 because, of course she would.

And now, that heiress is divorcing after only a few years of marriage, according to the Daily Mail.

Ivy Getty, the billionaire oil heiress to the Getty oil empire, announced that she will be divorcing Tobias Engel after only being married for roughly three years.

The Daily Mail noted:

Tying the knot in November 2021 (after a private ceremony 11 months earlier), when the Covid pandemic was still ripping through communities, meant that large gatherings were a risky business. Nonetheless, Ivy, great-granddaughter of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty, managed to make her miracle happen as she wore a John Galliano mirrored bridal gown to walk down the aisle in a ceremony officiated by Nancy Pelosi.

The luxurious wedding was a star-studded event, given that Ivy Getty is also a famous model and has numerous friends in that world who attended.

It was reported that Ivy, 29, filed for divorce in January.

In a previous interview, she described that after meeting Tobias through mutual friends, the two became serious and began dating. It was one night during a trip to dinner that she had a feeling he was about to pop the question.

"As the sun was getting ready to set, we went outside to take photos of it. Toby set his iPhone timer and got down on one knee. The timer went off at the perfect moment as we have the most incredible photo," Ivy said of the proposal.

The guest list for the wedding was insane, and included "Wes Gordon, designer Mimi Wade, influencer Marta Mae, musician Petite Meller, fashion editor Hamish Bowles, activist Marsha Molinari, model Laura Hanson Sims, British TV host Fletcher Cowan, and filmmaker (and Kiernan Shipka's boyfriend) Christian Coppola."

While the fun lasted for a few years, it came to an end in January, as she filed for divorce in what was described as a "contested" divorce.

It was also reported that Ivy, given her status as a billionaire oil heiress, had a pre-nup in place.

"Obviously, being a member of the Getty family, Ivy is careful about legal entanglements," a source told PageSix.

Money can buy a lot of things, but it's proven once again that it can't always buy happiness.
