Exactly 60 years ago on Wednesday, President John F. Kennedy Jr. was assassinated while riding in a Texas motorcade, and there are still many unanswered questions about what happened and why.

No one really knows why a gunman, ostensibly Lee Harvey Oswald, shot Kennedy.

That could be because Jack Ruby killed Oswald two days after the assassination before a trial could happen or any statements to explain his actions could be made.

All authorities know is that Oswald was a Marxist, spent years in the Soviet Union, and visited Russian and Cuban embassies in Mexico City two months before the shooting.

Police could not find evidence of any conspiracy, as much as they tried.

“The explanation of Oswald’s motive for killing President Kennedy was buried with him,” Time wrote in 1964.
