Alabama lawmakers advance bills ensuring Biden appears on November ballot

 April 18, 2024

Alabama lawmakers have officially advanced legislation on April 17 that ensures that President Joe Biden will appear on the state's November ballot.

Before any conservatives out there get too worked up, remember what happened in 2020.

This is almost an exact mirror of the accommodations that were made for then-president Donald Trump as we approached that election.

Legislative committees in the Alabama House of Representatives and Senate approved identical bills that will push back the state's certification deadline from 82 days to 74 days before the general election in order to accommodate the date of Democrats' nominating convention.

Alabama has had one of the earliest nomination dates in the country for years and often causes problems for whichever political party has their convention scheduled at a later date that year.

"We want to make sure every citizen in the state of Alabama has the opportunity to vote for the candidate of his or her choice," said Democrat Senator Merika Coleman, the sponsor of the Senate Bill.
