Trump grand jury reconvenes in Manhattan, hears more witness testimony

The grand jury looking into former President Donald Trump's alleged involvement in hush money payments to Stormy Daniels and whether they violated any laws reconvened Monday after a week of not meeting.

The panel heard witness testimony from David Pecker, the former CEO of American Media Inc. which made the payments on behalf of Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, and which Cohen has claimed were on behalf of Trump to keep Daniels quiet about her claims that the two had consensual sex.

If Pecker testifies that the payments were for political, not personal reasons, it could add fuel to the fire of indicting Trump on charges of falsifying paperwork or some such nonsense. Pecker was already granted immunity in the matter during Cohen's trial for making the payments.

Other panels have already looked at the payments in light of campaign finance laws and declined to prosecute or sanction Trump.

Bragg's office has reportedly been in turmoil over whether to move forward with the indictment because it may help Trump politically while making Democrats look biased and out to get him on a minor matter.

Trump initially predicted that he would be arrested last Tuesday, but over the weekend said that Bragg was dropping the matter. So far, he's 0-2 in his predictions.
