Fans of The Beach Boys were shocked and saddened to learn of the fate of the iconic band's co-founder, Brian Wilson.

According to the New York Post, Wilson has been placed under conservatorship after his health took a steep downturn following the recent death of his wife.

Wilson is reportedly suffering from dementia, and his family confirmed that two family members will take over as the 81-year-old rocker's co-conservators.

The relatives at issue, LeeAnn Hard and Jean Sievers, confirmed via a statement published on Instagram that they will step in as the co-conservators for the ailing singer.

"Following the passing of Brian’s beloved wife Melinda, after careful consideration and consultation among Brian, his seven children, Gloria Ramos, and Brian’s doctors (and consistent with family processes put in place by Brian and Melinda), we are confirming that longtime Wilson family representatives LeeAnn Hard and Jean Sievers will serve as Brian’s co-conservators of the person," they wrote Thursday night on Instagram.

They added, "This decision was made to ensure that there will be no extreme changes to the household and Brian and the children living at home will be taken care of and remain in the home where they are cared for by Gloria Ramos and the wonderful team at the house who have been in place for many years helping take care of the family."

The family representatives assured fans that the music legend will still be able to take part in projects of his choosing.

"Brian will be able to enjoy all of his family and friends and continue to work on current projects as well as participate in any activities he chooses," Hard and Sievers added.

The NY Post noted:

In court documents obtained by the Blast, the music icon is suffering from a “major neurocognitive disorder” such as dementia and is “unable to properly provide for his own personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter.”

The news triggered sympathetic reactions across social media.

"His family has made a wise decision. I hope the best for him. Yes, whenever he's "home" (that's what I called it with my dad), he can continue to be creative," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "He had such a beautiful voice when he was young."

Wilson and his late wife had adopted five children, and he had two daughters with his previous wife.
