Pop superstar Taylor Swift announced that she would be postponing her planned concert in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil after a 23-year-old fan tragically passed away at a show on Friday due to heat-related symptoms.

In an announcement posted to Instagram, Swift stated, "I'm writing this from my dressing room in the stadium. The decision has been made to postpone tonight's show due to the extreme temperatures in Rio. The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers, and crew has to and always will come first."

The fan who died, Ana Clara Benevides Machado, sought medical attention at the Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium and ended up being transported to the hospital where she passed away.

While an official cause of death has yet to be declared, fans and observers pointed out that concertgoers were not allowed to bring water bottles into the stadium despite the massive heatwave that is crushing Brazil right now.

Temperature on Friday peaked around 102.4 degrees Fahrenheit but apparent temperature, which accounts for humidity, read at 138 degrees Fahrenheit on Friday morning.

Swift already had to postpone a concert in Argentina due to bad weather and this latest tragedy has left a real blight on what has otherwise been an incredibly successful tour for one of the biggest performers in music today.
