Lawmakers ask why Michael Cohen has avoided perjury charge after admitting he lied to Congress

 May 3, 2024

A pair of America's top Republicans recently demanded to know why the Department of Justice has refused to investigate former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen despite the man openly admitting that he lied to Congress.

Reps. Mike Turner and Elise Stefanik wrote to the DOJ about six months ago with a criminal referral for Cohen.

The DOJ confirmed that officials received the referral, but the department has not followed up at the time of writing.

In 2023, Cohen admitted that he had lied to Congress in 2019 "when he falsely told the House Intelligence Committee behind closed doors that he was not instructed by Trump to inflate his net worth."

"So, you lied under oath in February of 2019? Is that your testimony?" Cohen was pressed by Donald Trump's attorney, Alina Habba, in October 2023.

"Yes," Cohen replied.

I'm just as confused as Stefanik is as to why nobody in the DOJ seems to care about this

"The Biden Administration's attempts to stonewall this investigation is yet another example of Biden's lawfare against President Trump," Stefanik claimed.
