Shamina Begum will appeal the removal of her British citizenship in 2019 after she left the U.K. at age 15 to join Islamic State, or IS, in Syria.

Begum, who is 24 now, is languishing in a Syrian refugee camp, which is more like a prison camp where conditions are equivalent to torture and detainees are not allowed to leave, according to her lawyers.

Her lawyers also claim that she may have been trafficked to Syria with two other teen girls, one who was killed in an explosion and one whose whereabouts are unknown.

She married a Dutch IS member while in Syria and had three children, who all died.

Begum has expressed regret for going to Syria and for her status as I.S.

She also said she is "ashamed" of her actions.
