Senate passes bill forcing TikTok to be sold or banned

 April 24, 2024

The Senate is making some serious moves lately.

Lawmakers have made progress on a package that would send $61 billion to Ukraine and $26 billion to Israel.

In a key foreign policy move, the Senate has passed a bill that would force TIkTok to either be sold by its parent company or face being banned from America.

It is definitely an aggressive act by the legislature to pass the bill by a 79-18 margin, because there are plenty of content creators who depend on TikTok for their livelihood.

The short-form video app is a product of ByteDance, a company owned by the Chinese government.

Because ByteDance has already had multiple instances of misusing Americans' data, our Senate simply doesn't trust the people running the app.

What do you think about this?

Do we need to keep TikTok free for the people who make their living on the platform, or is this too much of an issue of national security?
