Republican Celeste Maloy is projected to win Utah's special election for the U.S. House seat vacated after Rep. Chris Stewart (R) retired earlier this year.

Maloy defeated Utah State Sen. Kathleen Riebe (D) and five independent candidates for the seat, which had been Republican for at least the last six terms.

Some controversy came when it was discovered that Maloy did not vote in the 2020 or 2022 elections, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

Maloy's district covered part of Salt Lake along with western and southern Utah.

The seat was the last to be filled in the House.

Maloy worked in Stewart's office and was his chief congressional counsel.
