Pop singer Steve Lawrence, best known as one-half of the popular duo Stevie & Eydie, died at age 88 on Thursday in Los Angeles from Alzheimer's disease, statements from his publicist and his son revealed.

David Lawrence, his son, said in a press statement shared with Deadline: “My Dad was an inspiration to so many people. But, to me, he was just this charming, handsome, hysterically funny guy who sang a lot. Sometimes alone and sometimes with his insanely talented wife. I am so lucky to have had him as a father and so proud to be his son. My hope is that his contributions to the entertainment industry will be remembered for many years to come.”

In addition to singing, Lawrence also acted in such movies and television shows as The Blues Brothers, The Nanny and Two and a Half Men.

He also appeared on the Carol Burnett Show and various late-night variety shows.

Both Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, his wife and singing partner, also had solo careers.

Some of his solo hits included “Go Away Little Girl,” “Pretty Blue Eyes” and “Party Doll.” He won a Grammy in 1962 and an Emmy as part of the duo "Stevie and Eydie" in 1979.
