Mother who left her daughter to starve while she vacationed pleads guilty to aggravated murder

32-year-old Kristel Candelario from Ohio pleaded guilty to aggravated murder on Thursday after leaving her 16-month-old daughter to starve to death while she spent ten days in Puerto Rico on vacation.

Candelario's plea deal provided that she would accept the murder charge alongside a child endangerment count, with two additional murder charges and one count of felonious assault dropped.

This crime was unspeakably heinous, as Candelario actually posted a picture of herself smiling on the beach in Puerto Rico while her child was alone at home and dying of starvation and neglect.

According to a court affidavit, the child had been left in a pile that "consisted of soiled blankets and a bottom liner, saturated with urine and feces," where she eventually died, presumably after days of suffering.

Meanwhile, Candelario was posting vacation pictures to Facebook with the aforementioned picture captioned, "The time that is enjoyed is the true time lived."

No one can possibly understand the fear and suffering that Candelario's daughter endured for those days. The girl's mother now faces life in prison and will be sentenced on March 18.
