Nikki Haley drops out, refuses to uphold RNC pledge to endorse Trump

Many believe Nikki Haley spent far too much money and wasted too much of the Republican Party's time staying in the race as long as she did.

Besides that, many believe her next big mistake came in the wake of her drop-out announcement as she refused to endorse former President Donald Trump, who absolutely decimated her in all but one state on Super Tuesday.

As Business Insider reported, Haley's announcement regarding her exit from the presidential race soured many, as she failed to stick by an RNC pledge taken last year in which she said she would support the nominee.

Not only did she refuse to endorse the former president, but she doubled down, saying that he would have to "earn" her support.

"It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it who did not support him," she said in a concession speech in her home state of South Carolina, where she also lost to Trump. "And I hope he does that."

She added, "This is now his time for choosing."

"I said I wanted Americans to have their voices heard. I have done it. I have no regrets. And although I will no longer be a candidate, I will not stop using my voice for the things I believe in," she concluded in her exit speech Wednesday.

Notably, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a former presidential candidate who was once considered Trump's biggest primary threat, excoriated Haley for not sticking to the RNC pledge and endorsing Trump after being beaten so badly.

According to Fox News, the Republican governor held nothing back in his thoughts on Haley's failure to uphold the pledge -- the same pledge he took and complied with.

"I signed the pledge, and you signed the pledge saying that you’re gonna not take your ball and go home," DeSantis said in a recent NewsMax interview. "And so I honored the pledge, and she’s gonna have to make a decision about whether she wants to or not."

DeSantis doubled down in his criticism of Haley's refusal to stick to her word.

"But the idea that somehow circumstances have changed… I think we all knew what we were doing when we did that, and you've got to make a judgment about whether that’s meaningful to you. And so for me, I tell people, you know, if I say I’m going to do something, I’m going to do it," DeSantis continued.

Only time will tell if Haley changes her mind. Not that it really matters one way or another.
