MSNBC pundit: Trump needs to 'die in prison' to send a message to Americans

 September 15, 2023

In the latest example of Trump Derangement Syndrome run amok, MSNBC pundit and liberal radio personality Dean Obeidallah has declared his belief that the former president needs to “die in prison” in order to send a message to the public, as Fox News reports.

The shocking commentary came during a discussion with Tommy Christopher of Mediaite on a recent installment of the Dean Obeidallah Show on SiriusXM.

Referencing Trump's indictment on charges that include an alleged attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election – to which he has pleaded not guilty – Obeidallah made his assessment of the situation crystal clear.

“I think Donald Trump must die in prison because I don't care if he was 45 years old. You should get life in prison if you attempt a coup, and there should be no chance of parole. I don't care who it is,” the far-left host stated.

An effective death sentence for Trump, in Obeidallah's estimation, would serve a broader purpose in terms of communicating a strong warning to the citizenry.

“That's why I think Donald Trump or anyone else who commits a coup, must die in jail, because either we're going to protect the democratic republic, or we're going to allow people, in this case, Trump, to chip away at our democracy and chip away at what we believe in these institutions,” Obeidallah opined.

Putting a fine point on his controversial take, the host added, “That's why I'm so passionate about, like with every fiber of my being, that Donald Trump has to live out his natural days, his last days or natural life, in a prison cell.”

Breitbart further noted that Obeidallah's scorn did not extend only to Trump, but also to Republican presidential hopeful Gov. Ron DeSantis as well.

Doubling down on the deterrent effect he believes a harsh sentence for Trump could have on others and expressing his rage for anyone who disagrees, Obeidallah said, “That's why it so outrages me now when Ron DeSantis was on Newsmax a few days ago saying, 'Oh, we're going to look at pardons for the Proud Boys, like Trump has said.'”

Elaborating on the attack he says the group orchestrated on Jan. 6, 2021, he added, “The prosecution laid out the case: they began plotting right after the election when Trump said the election was stolen. They had 200 people there at ten in the morning, way before Trump's speech down by the Capitol, because they had plotted how they were going to attack the Capitol.

Suggesting that recent seditious conspiracy convictions among members of the Proud Boys place their actions “just one step below treason,” Obeidallah said that for DeSantis to contemplate offering clemency was also, in fact, “treasonous.”

Obeidallah's history of overwrought hyperbole was on display earlier in the week when he labeled Trump “the Bin Laden of the 1/6 MAGA terrorist attack” and claimed – on the anniversary of 9/11 – that the former president is poses a greater danger to the country than Al Qaeda.

That was not the first time he analogized Trump to the most sinister of forces the world has seen in recent decades, having gone on a similar rant last year, as Fox News noted.

“At this point, I LITERALLY view people who still support Donald Trump no different than the despicable, vile people who supported Bin Laden after 9/11,” Obeidallah wrote on X, then Twitter, fatally undermining his arguments in opposition to the former president with an utterly inapt comparison certain to offend large swaths of the American populace.
