Kevin McCarthy says that Donald Trump will be the 2024 nominee

 September 18, 2023

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said that former President Donald Trump will be the Republican Party's 2024 nominee during an interview with FNC’s Sunday Morning Futures.

During the conversation, anchor Maria Bartiromo asked McCarthy, "What’s your take on this, that as we see more indictments of Donald Trump, he seems to be gaining in terms of popularity with the public? Will he be the nominee?"

McCarthy responded by saying, "I think he will be the nominee. President Trump is stronger today than he was in 2016 or 2020, and there’s a reason why. They saw the policies of what he was able to do with America, putting America first and making our economy stronger. We didn’t have inflation. We didn’t have these battles around the world. We didn’t look weak around the world."

McCarthy's admission says a lot with so much of the campaign season still to go.

Trump has dominated the race from day one, and none of his competition, outside of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, has been able to mount a real challenge to the former president.

There hasn't been a single official primary held yet, and McCarthy is already calling the race for Trump.
