One day after former President and presumptive GOP 2024 presidential nominee Donald Trump named Texas Gov. Greg Abbott as a possible running mate, Abbott said he wasn't interested and was "staying in Texas."

“Obviously, that’s very nice of him to say,” Abbott told reporters on Friday.

“As you know, I’m working right now on the midterm election process,” Abbott added. “I’ve already talked about that. I’ve announced that I’m running for re-election two years from now, and so, my commitment is to Texas, and I’m staying in Texas.”

Trump said over a month ago during a town hall that he knew who his VP would be, but he has since referenced a "short list" several times with multiple different names attached to it.

Other than Abbott, those who seem to be in the running include South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, South Carolina Sen Tim, Scott, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former independent Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, Florida Rep. Byron Donalds, and biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

Trump's comments came on Thursday as he visited the area of Eagle Pass, Texas to campaign on border security and see the condition of the border firsthand.
