Former Virginia election official indicted for alleged 'altered election results' in 2020

 November 29, 2023

Fallout from the 2020 election continues to plague Virginia, and a high-profile case is playing out regarding former Prince William County general registrar Michele White.

White was indicted on three charges last year after she allegedly "altered election results" in the 2020 election, in a county where President Joe Biden beat former President Donald Trump by 10 points.

According to Just The News, White recently filed for a "Bill of Particulars," which requires prosecutors to provide more details regarding the charges filed against her.

White had resigned suddenly in 2021 without providing information at the time as to why.

The former registrar was indicted by a grand jury "on two felony counts alleging corrupt conduct as an election official and making a false statement, and one misdemeanor charge of willful neglect of duty by an election officer," the outlet reported.

Notably, the current registrar of the county indicated that his predecessor's actions did not alter the outcome of the 2020 election.

When the indictments were announced last year, they didn't provide specifics -- only dates as to when the alleged actions took place. JustTheNews obtained more details regarding the indictments this week.

The outlet noted:

According to a notice and motion for release of court funds for defense investigation and expert assistance that was filed this past March, White’s lawyer stated that the Attorney General’s office alleges “White altered election results within the state reporting system, VERIS, and that her alterations resulted in the false reporting of the election results from Prince William County.”

As far as her filing for  a"Bill of Particulars," White argued that the current indictment information "does not provide enough information for undersigned counsel to identify with particularity the criminal conduct alleged by the Commonwealth in each of the three indictments."

Social media exploded after reports of the indictments surfaced. Some expressed skepticism that White will be held accountable, while others sarcastically said they were "shocked" at the idea of the election being tampered with.

"And this shocks no one," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Annnnnd nothing will happen."

Only time will tell if White is convicted on the charges, two of which carry serious penalties. Her trial is set to begin in January 2024 and is expected to last about 10 days.
