Democrat Senator Debbie Stabenow Not Seeking Reelection

Michigan Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow has officially announced that she will NOT seek reelection in 2024, opening up a race in a key battleground state.

Stabenow will retire after serving four terms in Congress:

"Inspired by a new generation of leaders, I have decided to pass the torch in the U.S. Senate. When my term ends, I intend to begin a new chapter in my life that includes continuing to serve our State outside of elected office while spending precious time with my amazing 96-year-old mom and my wonderful family," Stabenow said in a Facebook post.

Michigan did go blue in 2020, but it was just four years before that in 2016 that Michigan went red for Donald Trump's historic run for the White House.

If Donald won before, there's no reason Republicans can't win in Michigan again. Removing the incumbent from the picture just increased the GOP's chances to do exactly that.

Stabenow was elected to the House in 1996 and the Senate in 2000.
