Two Democrats vote with Republicans against Biden Labor Department nominee

Two Senate Democrats joined with Republicans on Tuesday to vote against President Joe Biden's nominee for assistant labor secretary, Jose Javier Rodriguez.

Sens. Joe Manchin (WV) and Bob Menendez (NJ) were the two dissenting votes to advance Rodriguez, and their "nos" caused Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (NY) to also vote "no."

This change allows Schumer to bring up Rodriguez again for a vote at a later date if he wishes to do so.

Biden has been trying to get Rodriguez confirmed since 2021, when his nomination stalled for the first time.

He is a workers' rights attorney who served in the Florida state Senate from 2012-2016.

Manchin apparently had a problem with Rodriguez's lack of experience.
