Trump reportedly turning 'sour' on RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel

 November 16, 2023

As the 2024 election nears, and in the wake of Republicans taking a beating overall in the recent off-year election, the blame game has already begun.

According to the Washington Examiner, former President Donald Trump is reportedly turning "sour" on Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, who was blamed by many on the right for the string of critical losses suffered by the party earlier this month.

The reported goal by some Republican operatives, including those close to Trump's circle, is to pressure McDaniel to step down and allow someone else to bring the fire and energy required to ensure Republicans win next year.

The Examiner noted:

The report suggests several people close to the former president are trying to get him to turn on McDaniel, with one person familiar with the matter telling CNBC that "if there’s enough pressure from us and Trump, McDaniel might just decide, ‘this is humiliating,’ and step down.”

While the president could reportedly be turning against her at the moment, he was a huge ally of hers for some time, including during her last campaign to run the RNC.

Other Republican presidential candidates, such as Vivek Ramaswamy, have already issued public calls for McDaniel to step down in the wake of the string of GOP losses in the recent off-year elections.

He made his feelings on the matter clear during the last GOP presidential debate.

"I speak the truth. I mean, since Ronna McDaniel took over as chairwoman of the RNC in 2017, we have lost 2018, 2020, 2022 — no red wave, that never came. We got trounced last night in 2023," Ramaswamy said during the debate.

He added, "And I think that we have to have accountability in our party. For that matter, Ronna, if you want to come onstage tonight, you want to look the GOP voters in the eye and tell them you resign, I will turn over my — yield my time to you."

McDaniel and the RNC has already pushed back on Ramaswamy's -- and others' -- calls for her resignation.

"Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and the entire Republican National Committee is laser-focused on beating Biden next fall. The RNC has already staffed up in 15 states, filed over 70 election integrity lawsuits, launched Bank Your Vote, established a permanent Election Integrity department, and continues to hold Joe Biden’s feet to the fire," the RNC said in a statement.

If the reports that Trump is souring on McDaniel are accurate, it could be the tipping point for the RNC chairwoman.

Only time will tell if she decides to buckle under the growing pressure.
