As one of its last decisions on cases it will hear this year, the U.S. Supreme Court has decided to take on former President Donald Trump's claims of presidential immunity in his actions on Jan. 6, 2021.

Trump has claimed that actions prosecutors have labeled attempts to overturn the 2020 election are covered under presidential immunity since he was president when he committed them.

Those claims have been rejected by the lower court and by a federal appeals court.

The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on the immunity question on April 25.

It is unknown when a ruling will come, and the election case is likely to be on hold until it does.

Trump has claimed immunity in several of the cases against him, and the court's ruling could give clarity in all of them.
