The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday denied a student group's emergency petition to be allowed to host a drag show on the campus of West Texas A&M University, agreeing for the time being with the university's decision to prohibit the event.

Spectrum WT and two student leaders of the LGBTQ group claim that the ban on the drag show violates their First Amendment rights.

It is not a final decision and the litigation will continue, but the group will not be allowed to host the drag show while that continues.

The suit was filed last year before the planned show, which was moved off campus after the ban. This year's show was scheduled for March 22 on campus.

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, known to be conservative, will hear arguments in the case on April 29.

Part of the reason for the lower court ruling was that the show was rated PG-13 and would have allowed children to attend with a parent.
