Ronna McDaniel announces plans to resign as RNC Chair after Super Tuesday

 February 27, 2024

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel's year has gone from bad to worse.

According to Fox News, after months of pressure from those unhappy with her performance as the head of the GOP organization, she announced this week that she'll step down after the Super Tuesday round of primaries.

The announcement came weeks after former President Donald Trump asked her to step down.

Fox News noted:

The former president met with McDaniel at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida in early February.

Trump wrote in his Truth Social platform following the meeting that McDaniel was a "friend" but that he would be urging changes at the RNC after the Feb. 24 South Carolina GOP presidential primary.

McDaniel released a statement regarding her resignation announcement, calling her time in the role the "privilege of my life."

"It has been the honor and privilege of my life to serve the Republican National Committee for seven years as Chairwoman to elect Republicans and grow our Party," McDaniel said in a statement.

She added, "I have decided to step aside at our Spring Training on March 8 in Houston to allow our nominee to select a Chair of their choosing. The RNC has historically undergone change once we have a nominee and it has always been my intention to honor that tradition."

McDaniel also committed to working behind the scenes to help get Republicans elected in November.

"I remain committed to winning back the White House and electing Republicans up and down the ballot in November," McDaniel's statement continued.

Recently, Trump has already made public his recommendations for new leadership at the RNC, including endorsing North Carolina GOP chair Michael Whatley as chair, and his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, as co-chair.

Social media users offered mixed reactions to the news of McDaniel's exit announcement.

"She will not be missed. She poorly managed the RNC and there are many questionable expenditures on luxury items, flowers and limousines etc," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "We call this addition by subtraction ....now let's hope that Kevin McCarthy is NOT her replacement."
