Melania Trump hosted a fundraiser at Mar-A-Lago on Saturday involving members of the Log Cabin Republicans, the largest LGBT group in the GOP.

Before the event, Trump said it was important to unite the country around equality.

The fundraiser reportedly raised $1 million and was co-hosted by former member of Donald Trump's cabinet Ric Grenell, who praised the GOP for welcoming the group and said its agenda wasn't about special treatment but participation in the American dream.

"The gay left continues to try and convince America’s gays and lesbians that they don’t have personal freedoms — it’s absurd," Grenell said.

He added, "Gays and lesbians around the world are literally dying to come to America. We live in the greatest country in the world and Log Cabin members are proud to say it."

Trump said that respect was a defining value for Republicans. "Based on this central value, people thrive and exist together in a world where all are honored and celebrated," she said.
