Little House on the Prarie star Melissa Gilbert is currently celebrating the show's 50th anniversary, and she shared her thoughts on the iconic show's enduring popularity after being around for half of a century.

Despite only being in her fifties these days, Melissa Gilbert starred as Laura Ingalls Wilder in the hit show that ran way back from 1974 to 1983.

During a recent sit down with People magazine, Gilbert discussed why she believes the series still resonates with viewers all this time later.

"It's a reflection of all the things that people crave in life: family, community, love, faith, and hope," the real-life Laura Ingalls said. She added:

It's all the good juicy things that make human beings so wonderful and different from animals. I mean, that connection. And 'Little House' is a reminder of that.

Since that starring role, Gilbert has remained in the spotlight in recent years by participating as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars.
