Judge rules in favor of Letitia James's challenge of Nassau County's new rules for sports

A federal judge has upheld New York Attorney General Letitia James’s challenge to a new rule in Nassau County that established that an individual’s birth sex, not gender identity, determines what team they may play on.

County Executive Bruce Blakeman issued an executive order leading to the new rule that was quickly challenged by James.

James sent a cease-and-desist letter to Blakeman and threatened him with serious legal consequences should he refuse to rescind his order.

Blakeman stood strong but the fight is on after Eastern District of New York Judge Nusrat Jahan Choudhury ruled in James's favor, and her challenge will be allowed to proceed.

This is just one of a host of different conflicts over the issue of athletes who identify with a gender that is not aligned with their birth sex.

Often biologically male athletes transition to play on women's teams and end up dominating their competition because of their inherent advantages. Republicans are fighting this but are running into Democrats like Letitia James who aren't interested in defending women's sports.
