Hillary Clinton, Kelly Clarkson lament Arizona Supreme Court's abortion ruling

 April 19, 2024

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been making the rounds in recent days to express her outrage over a recent Arizona Supreme Court ruling on abortion, but it was one of her well-known conversation partners who made headlines for something she said while discussing the topic.

Popular singer and television host Kelly Clarkson opened up to Clinton about the difficulties she faced while pregnant with each of her two children, including time spent in the hospital with complications, as NBC reports.

The two ladies sat down during an installment of Clarkson's daytime talk show to discuss the aforementioned state Supreme Court decision upholding a law banning abortion in almost all situations, and it was then that the host elaborated on her experiences with pregnancy.

“I have been pregnant twice, hospitalized both times. I mean, literally, I asked God, this is a real thing, 'To just take me and my son,' in the hospital the second time because I was like, it's the worst thing,” Clarkson said, suggesting that no woman should be required to endure such a scenario.

She apologized for the outpouring of emotion, saying, “I didn't know I'd get emotional, sorry.”

Clinton encouraged her to continue, saying, “It's OK, beacuse you're speaking for so many. You're speaking for literally millions of women in our country and around the world.”

The former American Idol winner emphasized that while she made the decision to give birth and has no regrets, she feels for those who have suffered similar trials during pregnancy and suggested that it should never be forced on anyone.

“It was just the worst,” Clarkson said while beginning to cry. “To make someone go through that.”

Clinton also held forth on the issue during her appearance, suggesting that the Arizona court decision amounted to “cruelty” and indicating that citizens needed to take their frustrations out at the ballot box.

“I feared it would happen, but I hoped it wouldn't happen, the failed presidential candidate declared.

She went on, “Now here we are in the middle of this very difficult period for women in about half the states in our country, who cannot get the care they need.”

“And the old law in Arizona is without exceptions and the danger to women's lives as well as our right to make our own decisions about our bodies and ourselves is so profound,” Clinton contended.

Continuing with their mutual admiration society, Clarkson called the Arizona ruling “just insane,” as Fox News noted, while Clinton described it as “horrifying in every way.”

Liberals are clearly hoping that abortion will play as pivotal role in Democratic wins this November as it did in the 2022 midterms, but whether the issue has the power to override concerns on issues such as immigration and the economy, however, only time will tell.
