Haley Says She Has No 'Problem' With IVF After Initially Deeming Embryos 'Babies'

 March 2, 2024

Nikki Haley is being called out for apparently flip-flopping on the controversial discussion around IVF (in vitro fertilization) that has taken hold in recent weeks.

Haley originally faced backlash for saying that embryos were "babies" in the wake of a recent Alabama Supreme Court ruling on IVF, and now seems to be singing a different tune.

"We don’t need government getting involved in an issue where we don’t have a problem. We don’t have a problem with IVF facilities. If you have a certain case, let that case play out the way it’s supposed to, but don’t create issues," Haley recently told CNN.

"I think we want IVF to be as accessible as possible to parents who are wanting those blessings of having a baby," Nikki continued. "We don’t want to take that away from parents who desperately want to have a child."

Alabama's highest court has decided that embryos can be considered children in the state, which has opened the door to possible restrictions on IVF treatments.

At the time of the ruling, Haley agreed:

Embryos, to me, are babies. When you talk about an embryo, you are talking about — to me, that’s a life. And so I do see where that’s coming from when they talk about that.
