Gaetz reportedly offering Democrats subpoena power if they help oust McCarthy

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) has gone off the deep end in his quest to get rid of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

Gaetz is reportedly offering Democrats subpoena power on the House Oversight Committee if they help him oust McCarthy.

The power could allow them to call witnesses and to block subpoenas by Republicans, which could effectively derail the probe into President Joe Biden and his family's overseas business dealings.

Why Gaetz would want to do such a thing just to get rid of McCarthy is a mystery, when there is no other Republican leader with enough support to be elected speaker.

Through a spokesperson, Gaetz is denying he has made that offer, and it is unclear whether he would have the authority to make it in any case.

It's apparent that Gaetz is on some sort of crusade, but it's not worth derailing the impeachment probe to satisfy his indignation.
