Former admin officials say Obama will not inject himself into the 2024 election

 November 30, 2023

President Joe Biden's chances of being the Democratic Party's nominee for the 2024 election seem to be dwindling by the day, for many reasons.

Aside from falling polling numbers and approval ratings, Biden is also plagued with age-related health issues that, to the casual observer, have worsened significantly even since taking office in 2021.

According to the Washington Examiner, while many would believe that former President Barack Obama might act as a kingmaker and possibly use his vast influence within the Democratic Party to get things back on track, even with a successor to Biden, Democratic operatives have poured water on that theory.

A former Obama administration member made it clear that the former president has no interest in injecting himself into Washington politics, even at a time when his blessing could be a game-changer for a Democratic candidate, whomever that might be.

"President Obama is one of the most respected leaders in American history. Full stop," the former administration member  told the Washington Examiner.

They added, "But the part of his life where he's intimately involved in the daily mechanics of Washington is over. Unlike [former President Donald] Trump, President Obama was happy to serve his nation and let a new generation of leaders take up the torch."

"That isn't to say he doesn't care about the current and future state of the country, but he'd rather take a backseat and weigh in on issues where he specifically thinks his voice can help," the unidentified administration member said.

He went on to say that Obama would rather focus on his family, saying he earned "the right to enjoy life alongside Michelle and his daughters."

Talk surrounding Obama's influence comes as California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), a top Biden surrogate, and Vice President Kamala Harris remain the top two possible replacements, should the Democratic Party go that route.

It was noted that while Harris' numbers are worse than Bidens and her leadership style is questionable, at best, the fact that she's a Black female is a major factor, and one reason why Obama would also not want to inject himself, for fear of splitting the party to some degree.

"It's not exactly a secret that Democrats must hold onto the Black vote to ward off threats from extreme MAGA Republicans," a former Obama administration staffer said. "[Obama] knows that, and he won't risk splintering the party by backing a candidate early, even if they seem like a better option on paper."

"President Obama will do everything he can to help Democrats continue winning elections to continue the work started by his administration and advanced by the Biden-Harris administration," a Democratic operative reportedly said.

It was noted that Obama, believe it or not, might not have the influence that he once did with the party as it goes further to the left. Obama, just a few years ago, warned the party not to venture too far to the left, which caused controversy at the time.

Only time will tell what Obama's involvement in 2024 will be, if any.
