Domestic incident turns fatal when man shot after attacking police officer with a knife

 February 18, 2024

Suffolk County, New York, police officers responded to a 9-11 call on Saturday morning from a woman saying her husband was acting violently and was a danger to her and that she needed help.

Three officers responded to the scene, and when they approached the residence, the woman’s husband, Taiquell Woodson, ran out to meet them with a knife.

Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rob Waring explained, "The officer retreated and fell into the snow in the front yard. Woodson jumps on top of him with a knife and starts stabbing the officer, clearly attempting to [kill] him."

That officer's life was saved by his bulletproof vest, as the knife was unable to penetrate it.

The events were witnessed by a neighbor who said, "I saw the blood dripping on the snow," after Woodson attacked the officer. If not for the officer's partners, who quickly shot Woodson, this incident could have gone much worse.

This story is yet another example that illustrates just how dangerous domestic incidents are for police officers. This situation went from 0-100 in the blink of an eye, and thankfully, the assailant was stopped from taking someone's life.
