Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said at Axios's What's Next Summit that he doesn't know if he will run for office again or not.

He made the comments as he was asked whether he would run for governor of Michigan after Gretchen Whitmer's term ends in 2026.

Buttigieg said he moved from Indiana where he served as South Bend mayor to Michigan to be near his husband's family while they raise adopted twin toddlers.

Last year, he said he didn't plan to run for an open Senate seat in the state, but his answer this time was decidedly more vague.

He may be looking forward to a possible Joe Biden defeat in 2024 and trying to calculate his own political future if that happens.

Buttigieg was an early dropout in the 2020 campaign after he failed to get enough traction to beat Biden for the nomination that year.
