Vivek Ramaswamy overtakes Ron DeSantis as best performing candidate after the first debate

Vivek Ramaswamy has overtaken Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as the best nonperforming candidate following the first Republican debate, according to a New York Post poll.

The poll found that 23% of respondents said Ramaswamy won the debate, while 21% said DeSantis was the winner.

Former Vice President Mike Pence was the winner, according to 11% of respondents, putting him a fair bit back from Ramaswamy and DeSantis.

Leger executive vice president Andrew Enns told the Post, "I think it’s interesting in the sense that you had one of the early front-runners, DeSantis, doing reasonably well, but you’ve also got a bit of an upstart coming in playing a bit of the outsider card."

By all accounts, Ramaswamy should be a non-factor in the race for the Republican presidential nomination and yet he is beating out political veterans and attracting real support.

Of course, this doesn't mean Ramaswamy is a real threat to former President Donald Trump, who has double-digit leads over all his competitors and at this point, and it seems that the only thing that will stop him from winning the nomination is if he chooses to drop out.
