The Trump campaign is making plans to deliver a "knock-out punch" to the campaign of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in Iowa after chipping away at his polling numbers steadily since DeSantis announced his candidacy for president in May.

Back then, DeSantis scored as high as 31% in some polls but is now closer to half that number. DeSantis has even been third or fourth place in some recent polls.

The pro-Trump Super PAC MAGA Inc. plans to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on ads in Iowa in the coming week alone, and Trump will visit several more times before October.

The campaign says it has 27,500 signed caucus pledge cards and 1,500 local volunteers in the state.

DeSantis is at 19% in Iowa, far below Trump's 40%, but says he won't get out of the race any time soon.

He has said that no one is “entitled to be nominated" and that his campaign is built for the "long haul." He added, "You got to show up in these early states, and you’ve got to earn it, and that’s what I’m going to do.”
