Texas mother faces attempted capital murder charges after alleged knife attack on husband and toddlers
A Northlake mother is in jail on attempted capital murder charges after police say she stabbed her husband and two young children in an early-morning attack that left all three hospitalized.
Holly Leanne Flores, 37, was taken into custody Tuesday after an alleged knife assault at the family’s home in the small Texas town about half an hour north of Fort Worth, Northlake police reported.
Her husband called 911 around 4:20 a.m. saying he had been stabbed in the head. Officers arrived, conducted a protective sweep, and found a 3-year-old girl and a 10-month-old boy with stab wounds to the chest.
All three victims were rushed to the hospital and are expected to survive. Flores received stitches for a small cut on her chest, was released from medical care, and was transported to Denton County Jail.
Northlake Police Chief Robert Crawford laid out the preliminary charges at a press conference.
"Our detectives are still investigating the incident, and have preliminary charges as follows: two charges of attempted capital murder, and one charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon."
Husband fought to reach the children while under attack
According to details from the 911 calls, the husband was trying to get to the children in another room while Flores was allegedly trying to stab him. That sequence turned a domestic call into a race to save two small kids.
Violent family crimes of this kind keep landing in the news, including cases like a Stockton man arrested after his mother was fatally stabbed. The pattern is always the same: someone inside the home becomes the threat, and the youngest pay first.
Crawford confirmed Flores had already been processed into custody after treatment.
"An adult female, identified as Holly Leanne Flores, 37 years of age, has been treated and released from the hospital, taken into custody, and transported to Denton County Jail."
Detectives are still working the case. The chief declined to fill in every blank while the investigation remains open.
"I don’t want to say anything out of context right now, so some of that information will probably come out later."
Prior welfare calls did not stop the violence
Police had already been to the family’s address around five times since March. Most of those calls involved welfare concerns. That record did not prevent an early-morning knife attack on a husband, a toddler, and a baby still in arms.
Readers following sudden family tragedies have seen similar shock announcements, from a ten-year-old girl’s body recovered after a multi-day search to other cases that begin with a frantic emergency call and end in hospital corridors.
No motive has been stated. Officials have not released the husband’s name or the children’s names. Hospital locations were not identified. What is known is straightforward: a mother allegedly used a knife on her own household, and the victims are still recovering.
Crawford did not soft-pedal the human cost.
"It’s very heartbreaking when we have to respond to a traumatic event such as this."
Attempted capital murder charges put the focus on the children
Two counts of attempted capital murder track with the alleged attack on the 3-year-old girl and the 10-month-old boy. The aggravated assault charge with a deadly weapon covers the reported stabbing of the husband. Those are preliminary charges while detectives continue their work.
High-profile murder cases continue to draw national attention, including the matter of an illegal immigrant released at the border now charged with murdering a Virginia mother. Different facts, same demand: accountability when the vulnerable are targeted.
Flores remains in Denton County Jail. The husband and both children remain hospitalized and are expected to live. Northlake police say the investigation is active. No further public details on prior welfare visits have been released beyond the count and the general nature of those calls.
When a parent is accused of turning a knife on a baby and a toddler inside their own home, the justice system’s job is simple and non-negotiable: protect the victims, lock down the facts, and prosecute without excuses.
