Princess Ira von Furstenberg, fashion icon, model and socialite, dies at 83

Princess Ira von Furstenberg, a fashion icon, model, and socialite whose heyday was in the 1950s and beyond, died at age 83 on Feb. 18 in Rome, where she lived.

No cause of death was made public.

Von Furstenberg came into the public eye as a teen bride when she married a playboy prince.

She was divorced several times and worked as a model and actress, and later a designer, but as she did so, the media followed her as she mingled with many celebrities and others in the public eye.

She was asked several times to pose nude or appear nude in magazines, but she refused.

The late socialite is survived by one of her two sons from her first marriage.
