Person of interest in 11-year-old's disappearance arrested on unrelated charge as search continues

A person of interest in the disappearance of 11-year-old Audrii Cunningham was arrested Friday on an unrelated charge as the search for the girl continued on Sunday.

Don Steven McDougal, 42, was arrested for aggravated assault on Friday in another, unrelated incident. McDougal has a long rap sheet that includes attempted indecency with a child and enticing a child.

Police searched several locations overnight, but Cunningham remains missing.

They said a 2003 dark blue Chevrolet Suburban that belongs to McDougal was involved in her disappearance and that anyone who saw such a vehicle on Thursday or Friday should contact the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

They have the vehicle, but information from an eyewitness could help the case.

A backpack was found near the Lake Livingston Dam Friday that police think could have belonged to Cunningham, and this and other evidence leads them to believe that foul play was involved in her disappearance. Officers were searching the lake on Sunday.
