Fire Breaks Out On NYC Flight Minutes After Takeoff: 'Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!'

 February 20, 2024

A flight bound for New York City was recently forced to make an emergency U-turn in midair just minutes after takeoff.

Reports indicate that the flight crew noticed a "burnt electrical smell" and spotted fire in the cockpit.

The Endeavor Air jet took off from Toronto, Canada, on the morning of Feb. 3.

Over 70 people were onboard when the pilot contacted air traffic control in the midst of the horrifying incident:

Hey Toronto departure! Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!

"This is Endeavor 4826, declaring an emergency. Just had a fire, a spark-up, an electrical fire, up in the cockpit. Looks like it’s out currently," the pilot then said more calmly. "Requesting return back to Toronto immediately."

I'm sure that passengers on the plane were frightened, not to mention frustrated, about the delay.

Travelling always seems to come with a number of challenges, but this trip seemed to be filled with more than its fair share.

Thankfully, nobody was hurt in the incident.
