Bodycam footage shows mistaken intruder being shot by police 5 times

Newly released bodycam footage shows two sheriff's deputies shooting a woman they thought was an intruder breaking into her friend's apartment five times in what many are calling an exercise of excessive force.

The woman, Eboni Pounce, had been told by her friend 20 minutes before the shooting to break in because she forgot her key, but the deputies didn't know that when someone else reported an intruder.

They responded and found broken glass and Pounce with a gun, then announced themselves before shooting her five times.

Pounce survived the shooting and is recovering from her injuries to her leg and torso.

She said she grabbed her lawfully licensed firearm when she heard police because she thought they were intruders.

“It is heartbreaking that this tragedy, reminiscent of the shooting that caused Breonna Taylor’s death, happened at all,” attorney Ben Crump said about the incident.
